In the first 3 months of the year 2,382 agricultural tractors were registered for road use; this was a decline of 9.5% compared to the equivalent period in 2015, according to figures released by the AEA.
The average size of unit sold in the first 3 months of 2016 was 158.3 hp which was a 1.1% increase on the same period a year earlier. The total tractor power sold was 377k hp – a decrease of 8.6%.
An analysis by broad power group indicates increases in the smallest (51-100hp) range and in the largest size groups (over 160hp) but a sharp decline in the mid-power bands.
AEA Economist Chris Evans said, ” In terms of a regional breakdown it would appear that the central areas of the country have seen relatively better sales than the south and the north although it is quite difficult to determine the underlying reasons.”
